The island of Sint Eustatius wishes to lay down the planning policies for the next years in a Spatial Development Plan (Ruimtelijk ontwikkelingsplan ROP). A clear plan is required which can be used as a basis for decision making in planning and development. In this spatial development plan it is indicated wherefore, where and how development and building are allowed. The Spatial Development Plan will function as a touchstone for new spatial and functional development over the next years. The Spatial Development Plan has been based on the Strategic Development Plan and is al legally binding instrument. The Spatial Development Plan is based on the Island Ordinance Spatial (Eilandsverordening ruimtelijke ontwikkelingsplanning Sint Eustatius). This Ordinance commits the Island Council to drawing up and laying down a spatial development plan. The spatial development plan is laid down by the Island Council. The spatial development plan is for an important part of a consolidating nature and therefore based on the current situation. To obtain and record a solid image of the current situation, the island’s functions and buildings have been inventoried. In the scope of the SDP, necessary spatial development on the island has been researched.
